I don’t trust Iran’s new agency for the Strait of Hormuz. After what they did to those tankers last year, this is just a power grab to threaten global oil shipments.
If Iran is serious about peace with the US, why create a new military body to control the Strait? Seems like they’re trying to negotiate from a position of strength.
The Strait of Hormuz is too important for one country to control unilaterally. International maritime law should govern there, not Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.
Maybe this new agency is Iran’s way of showing they can keep the Strait secure while negotiating. But the US should demand independent oversight in any peace deal.
I read that 20% of global oil passes through Hormuz. Iran playing games there could spike gas prices here. The peace deal better include strict limits on this agency.
