Good to see HMS Dragon heading out, but I hope the fighting in the region actually stops before they get there. No point arriving if the strait is still a war zone.
The MoD says they’ll join the mission ‘when fighting ends’ — that could be years. Is this just a token gesture while we watch shipping get attacked?
I served on a Type 45 back in the day. HMS Dragon is a fine ship, but without proper air cover in the Gulf, she’s a sitting duck against Iranian missiles.
Why are we always the ones policing the Strait of Hormuz? Let the Gulf states take the lead for once — it’s their backyard, not ours.
Interesting that they’re preparing for a mission that might not happen. Sounds like a political move to show we’re ‘doing something’ while avoiding actual engagement.
The Strait of Hormuz is vital for global oil supplies. If HMS Dragon can help keep it open when the ceasefire comes, that’s a win for everyone — but it’s a big ‘if’.
