Three evacuated from hantavirus-hit ship as Spain says vessel can dock

British guide Martin Anstee among those evacuated from MV Hondius, which is now heading for Canary Islands

Three people with suspected hantavirus have been medically evacuated from a cruise ship.

They include a British man who was an expedition guide onboard the ship, the MV Hondius. He was named on Wednesday evening as Martin Anstee, 56.

  1. Poor Martin Anstee, 56, must be terrified being evacuated with suspected hantavirus from the MV Hondius. Hope he gets proper care in the Canary Islands.

  2. So the MV Hondius is still heading for the Canary Islands after evacuating three people? Seems risky if the virus is onboard. Hope they’re screening everyone.

  3. Hantavirus is no joke—rodent droppings can spread it. Glad Spain allowed the ship to dock, but they better quarantine those with symptoms.
