Pakistan army chief, Asim Munir, held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi in Tehran on Friday as Islamabad steps up diplomatic efforts to help mediate between Iran and the United States, Iran’s state media reported on Saturday.
Both sides exchanged views on the latest diplomatic initiatives aimed at preventing further escalation and ending the Iran war in talks that lasted late into the night, the report said.

Tehran accused the United States of “excessive demands”, Iranian media said on Saturday, as US media reports raised the prospect that Washington was mulling new strikes and leaders of the Islamic republic considered the latest peace proposal.
Pakistan’s powerful army chief arrived in Tehran on Friday to bolster mediation and US President Donald Trump abruptly changed his plans to skip his son’s wedding to stay in Washington due to “circumstances pertaining to government”, fuelling speculation that the situation had entered a sensitive stage.

- A group of Hezbollah-affiliated parliamentarians, state security officials, and allies of the militant group were hit with US sanctions Thursday, for allegedly seeking to preserve the Iran-backed group’s influence over Lebanese state institutions and obstruct disarmament efforts.
- The Board of Peace‘s lead envoy for Gaza warned the UN Security Council on Thursday that the enclave’s current division could become permanent, leaving more than 2 million people crowded into less than half its territory, unless a ceasefire takes hold.
- US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Thursday renewed criticism of NATO for not supporting the US war on Iran, as he headed to alliance talks in Sweden.
